A Day in London

On our Friday excursion we took a trip to London to see the sights. First stop was the London  Eye, with greats views and only a touch of Vertigo!

We then took a walking tour around the City of Westminster. Did you know that Big Ben is actually the name of the Great Bell in the clock tower? The north tower itself is actually called Elizabeth Tower.

We walked up Whitehall, past Downing St (home to the British Prime Minister), up to Trafalgar Square. The square is named in memory of the Battle of Trafalgar, which was won by the British in 1805. Nelson's Column in the square commemorates Admiral Horatio Nelson who died at the Battle.

After a picnic lunch in St Jame's Park, we strolled up The Mall, ending our day at Buckingham Palace before returning to Woldingham.
